I'm Kind of a Big Deal...

I'm famous.  No really, I am.  (Just kidding!  Well, kinda...)  When I was pregnant with the girls, I found out there was going to be a show on Lifetime filmed at the hospital I was delivering at.  I was so excited to see it.  I DVR'd the premiere of "One Born Every Minute", and was watching it one evening when Kevin got home from work.  He sat down and watched the rest of the episode with me, and was like, "Don't watch that show without me!".  We would always crack up because my OB was one of the doctors on the show.  It was great to be able to see him delivering babies.  It gave me a "glimpse" into what I could expect.  We joked on how funny it would be if I were to be on that show.  I mean, really...me delivering babies on National Television???  HAHAHA!

Fast forward to April of 2011.  We found out they were going to be filming Season 2 between the end of April and the beginning of June.  The same day we found out, I also had a doctors appointment.  Pretty much as soon as my doctor walked into the exam room, he asked if we were interested in being on the show.  What the heck?!?  Why not???  I mean, there were 100 couples that were going to be filmed, and only 30 picked, so our chances weren't that great anyway.  We're pretty open-minded, so we decided to go for it.

Well, we were filmed, and we found out in July that we were selected to be on the show.  The premiere was at the end of November (2011), and we were slated to be on episode #7.  After episode #6, (January 2nd, I believe) they "paused" the season.  (er, cancelled).  Anyway, they did throw us a bone and aired our episode on a random Thursday morning in May.  We have our episode still saved on our DVR, a DVD of our episode, and a book autographed to Kendall and Kylie by Jamie Lee Curtis.  Unfortunately, they never released the four remaining episodes to iTunes or Hulu, and they have not re-run (at least not that I am aware of).  I wish they would, but oh well.  What can you do?

It was a great experience.  Other than someone coming in to photograph us every now and then, and various people coming in to check our mics, it really wasn't intrusive.  I even forgot about the cameras after a while.  Actually, when I was in process of pushing two babies out, the cameras were the last thing on my mind.  (I will post a birth story here in the near future).

Anyway, my one proof that we were on TV is that our pictures are still up on the Lifetime website.  Under the season two pictures we are in #17, 21 and 22.  This one is by far my favorite!  So, yeah, we're kind of a big deal...

Professional Pictures

Today we had pictures taken for Christmas cards by the same person who took the girls' one year pictures. (Two of which are posted in the banner!). She does amazing work.

Anyway, the girls were not interested AT ALL on getting their pictures taken. She had a rocking horse, candy canes, huge ornaments, and Kendall just clinged to Kevin and I or cried for most of the session. Both girls barely cracked a smile. She was able to get a few pictures, so I hope they turn out ok. Elmo may be making an appearance in our Christmas cards this year!

The worst part is the photographer told us the hardest age to get good pictures is usually around 2 or 3. Sigh...looks like we still have at least another year of "fun" family portraits.

The "best" part was when we got back into the car and Kendall decided to try her candy cane (loved it) and was all smiles. Seriously?!?!

Any tips for keeping little ones happy and engaged during photography sessions are welcome!

So, today we had plans to hit up the sale at Stride Rite first thing this morning and head to the zoo for a few hours in the afternoon.

We got out the door before 9AM, went to Panera, Kohl's, then Stride Rite. The girls were so good. Kylie usually freaks out when her feet get measured, but didn't seem to care this time! We got home, got them lunch, and they went down for a nap. Unfortunately, they didn't go immediately to sleep, so waking them up at 2 was not an option, unless we wanted two pissed off little ladies. We ended up getting out the door and over to the zoo by 3:30.  When we walked up to the gate, we saw that the zoo closed at 4. Whomp whomp... 

We ended up going to a park for a little while, and had a great time. Moral of the story??? Always check schedules before you leave the house, and have a fun backup plan!

Stair Climbing

The girls were never big stair climbers until about a month ago. In prep for Kevin's business trip next month, I told him we needed to get them used to climbing stairs. I'm getting to the point where carrying both of them gets tough.

Well, we showed them one time and since then they have been unstoppable. All we have to do is say "let's go upstairs!" and they're off!

Now, of course, we have to be super careful and put a gate up. All they want to do is go up!

Day 6 – Ducks and Princesses (Epcot)

We got up on our last full day, and decided we were going to head to Epcot for the day.  None of us had gotten the chance to ride Soarin’, and we had reservations that evening at Akershus, so a day at Epcot made perfect sense.

We got out of the room later than planned, and got over to Epcot right as the girls were starting to get tired (in other words, not so perfect timing…)  We walked around for a bit and grabbed some fastpasses for Soarin’ while trying to get the girls to nap in the stroller.  I ended up walking at least 2 miles (no joke) around the Innoventions Fountains.  Kylie fell asleep pretty easily, but Kendall was stubborn.  Finally she gave up and passed out.

While I was trekking around the fountains, my parents went to go see Captain EO.  When they came out, they were on snooze watch while we rode Spaceship Earth one last time (it’s Kevin’s absolute favorite.)  When we were done on Spaceship Earth, it was time to use our fastpasses for Soarin’.  My parents told us to go ahead while they stayed with the girls (who were still sleeping).  

Soarin’ is one of my favorites.  If you haven’t ridden it before, try to get seated in the first row in Section B.  This gives you the ultimate hang-gliding feeling.  You cannot see anyone else except for the people in your own row.  The first time we rode it, we asked to be seated in that section, but haven’t gotten the chance since then.  When we came out, Kendall was awake and Kylie was still asleep.  It was my parents turn to ride Soarin’.  We made sure to warn my mom (who has a pretty big fear of heights) that she may want to close her eyes during certain parts of the ride. She ended up loving it!

Kylie soon awoke, so we went to the Sunshine Seasons Café to get lunch.  We always have great food there, definitely one of our favorite quick service places!  My parents joined us for a quick bite, and then we were off to the World Showcase.

We went to Mexico first and all rode the Grand Fiesta Tour.  The girls LOVED it.  It was definitely their favorite ride.  They are obsessed with Donald Duck and would point and yell “Duck” each time he would pop up.  It was hilarious.

We continued on and got a chance to see the band in Morocco (the girls love music, so they were big fans of this).  We also decided to show my parents the Yacht Club and Beach Club hotels, so we went out the back exit of the World Showcase and walked around a bit back there.

When we were done with dinner, we headed back to the resort to get packed up.  After putting the girls to bed, we all sat around and had a glass of wine, and reflected on a great trip.  We headed to bed a bit earlier since we had to catch the Magical Express at 7AM (ugh) the next morning.

 I’ll do one last post on our travels home and some tips, tricks, and words of advice I learned while travelling with young toddlers.
