Brush Your Teeth!

The girls have been dragging their (closed) potties over to the sink completely unassisted,  and using them as step stools. They then grab their toothbrushes and brush their own teeth. I heard squealing and giggling while I was cleaning the kitchen tonight, I and thought it was really cute. I apologize in advance for forgetting to turn my phone.

Even two year olds realize the importance of good oral hygiene.

23 Months!

I cannot believe that they are almost two years old. Two! How does this happen so quickly? Before I know it they are going to be off to college. Craziness.

Here are the last monthly updates for their second year!

Kendall:

Did the terrible twos hit early in your house? Because OMG, it has hit this girl like a ton of bricks. My sweet, studious, thoughtful Kendall has turned into a full blown whiney, screamy tantrum-y toddler. Don't get me wrong, we definitely still have good moments, but when the mood strikes, watch out! If one thing doesn't go her way, cover your ears. She has been in timeout more in the past month than the two of them have combined in their first 23 months of life. She gets SO upset if Kylie takes something from her, if she can't have a food item she really wants (more on that in a minute), or if we have to come in from outside. It can be exhausting. But then she does something adorable like sing "Twinkle Twinkle", her ABCs, or "reads" a book, and you forget about the 10 minutes of screaming you just had to endure. Toddlers are an interesting breed, that's for sure!

She loves, loves, loves going outside. I cannot wait for the nice weather to be more consistent. She loves wagon rides, running up and down the "hill", going in her cozy coupe, and going down slides. We don't have a swing set yet, but our neighbors do. She keeps trying to run over to their swing set and yells "Down the slide!"

Rachel thinks that part of the sudden onset of "fussy" also may be due to the fact that she is probably going through a growth spurt. She is a bear to get up in the mornings (literally yelling "No!" when we try to get her out of her crib while curling into a ball and burying herself into the corner). She has been eating pretty well, and has grown about 3/4ths of an inch since the last time I measured them (about 2 months ago).
See - She's still in the 99th percentile:

Quick funny story before I get to my other little bean. I gave the girls dinner last night (pizza and applesauce). Kylie still had a triangle of pizza left, but looked at me and said "I want cupcake, Mom." Kendall looked at me with an excited expression and said "Yes! Cupcake!" I just looked at them and said "Sorry girls, I don't have any cupcakes!" Kendall then proceeded to have a 5 minute scream/cry session. Kylie just looked at Kendall for a minute or two with a shocked expression on her face, and then looked at me and said "Kenall sad. Mom, Kenall sad." I just busted out laughing (which I don't think helped the situation in the slightest).

Kylie:

Kylie on the other had has really turned into the sweetest little girl the past month. She continually cracks me up with the stuff she says. "Why, Mom..why" (her new response to everything.) "Guess what. Mom, guess what!" (I then ask her "What, Ky?" and she just looks at me. I don't think she's quite grasped the idea that you are supposed to actually have something to say following a "Guess what?!?") Funny girl.

She can be quite possessive over people. She doesn't like me to hold Kendall or let her sit on my lap. Rachel said the same thing. She also has turned into quite a "Little Miss Bossy". She will go through phases when she says no to everything Kendall does. For instance, once last week Kendall was saying the alphabet and Kylie said "No ABCs Kenall". Then Kendall was clapping in the car, and Kylie said "No clap Kenall". We're trying to correct that behavior, but it does make me laugh.

Kylie is also our absolute girly girl. She loves sparkly stuff, Hello Kitty, Minnie Mouse, and loves to pick out her outfits. I posted a new picture over on the Monthly Pictures page, and I had bought the pink shirt for her (it's a 2T), and the yellow 3T for Kendall. She had to have the yellow and flat out refused the pink. So, her shirt is kinda big, and Kendall's was a little too short. That will teach me to buy two different colors!

She's still eating decently, but is definitely the pickier of the two. She actually has not grown since I measured them last. Still hanging strong at 34.25 inches!

Next monthly update...the big 2!

Kite!

The girls flew a kite for the first time tonight.  (Well...actually Kevin did, but they helped!)  The kite tail was really long, so Kevin had to cut it because it kept getting tangled.  They had lots of fun with the tail.  It was nice to have a chance to enjoy a beautiful (but windy) night out tonight!  Looks like it is going to be the last warm night for a while...sigh....

Out of the Mouths of Babes

The girls have had a language explosion lately. Especially Kylie. It makes me laugh sometimes at the things that come out of their mouths.

Kylie (drawing with sidewalk chalk): "Mom. I draw butterfly, Mom. Look, Mom!"

Kendall (when referring to the cupcakes we currently have in our house): "Black!" (when pointing to the chocolate cupcake) "Brown!" (when pointing to the vanilla cupcake) "Kendall want."

Kylie (in the car referring to this song: Clap Your Hands) "Play Clap!", Kendall (when the song ends): "Yaaaaay Clap!"  They are my two backseat DJs.  They constantly call out requests.  Dora, U2, Toto, Bob (Marley), and Michael Jackson (which they always follow with an "Ow!")

Kendall (when riffling through her books): "Mouse to School, Mouse a Cookie" ... Referring to these two books (two of her absolute favorites):

Kylie (when wanting my cell phone): "I play game, Mom." Side note, I have no idea what's up with the "Mom" lately. It's just weird to have your not quite two year old calling you Mom.

Kendall (when wanting the iPad): "Kendall want iPad. Kendall play Elmo ABC's." She always refers to herself in the third person.

Kylie and Kendall (when wanting to go outside and play on the "hill"): "Go outside. Up the hill!"

Kylie (when picking them up yesterday...she was on the swing on Rachel's swingset):

Rachel: "Kylie, do you want to go see mommy?"
Kylie: "No no no no NO! Kylie yeyo (yellow) swing, Kylie yeyo swing! No Mommy!"
...makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, huh? Guess I know where I rate!

Kylie (when going to the doctor on Friday): "No doctor! Go to Kroger right now!" The girl is OBSESSED with Kroger and is always asking to go "right now". Even running a fever, she was all about Kroger.

Kendall (When passing the crappy old WalMart on our way home from daycare): "Junk Walmart." Kevin almost drove off the road when she said that last week.

Kendall (when wanting me to hold her): "Mama hold you down."

Kylie (when waking up in the middle of the night once last week): "Mommy! Yogurt! Yogurt Mommy, Yogurt!" Why she was screaming "Yogurt" in the middle of the night, I'm not quite sure. They usually sleep with their door closed, and I opened it one night last week because their room was really warm. I think she woke up and saw her door was open and thought we were all up for the day. She usually has a yogurt packet first thing in the morning when Kendall has her milk. I "think" that's why she was crying about yogurt.

I know I've said this before, but these two little ladies continue to amaze and amuse me every day.

This Week

This week has been a complete whirlwind, and I'm not even sure why!

Sunday we went to Ari's birthday party (Rachel's daughter).  The girls had a great time.   The only issue was that it was scheduled to start at 11:30.  11:30!  What the heck?  The girls usually go down for a nap between 12:30 and 1 (and yes, I am a nap nazi).  Anyway, the girls were in great spirits.  They were running and jumping in the bounce house and enjoyed some refried beans and fruit salsa.  (It was a Dora birthday party.  Mexican food was quite fitting!)

Eating lunch with my sissy!

Our little diva <3

She's too much!
Anyway, we ended up leaving around 1:30 because we were getting dangerously close to a Kendall no nap meltdown.  We got to the car, and Kendall was throwing a fit because I didn't let her walk the rest of the way to the car.  When I got her in the car, I realized I didn't have my phone.  The last time I saw it, Kendall was playing a game on it.  I went back inside twice looking for it.  No one could find it.  About a half hour after we got home, Rachel called.  They found my phone in the street:

iSmash

I got my replacement phone on Tuesday and have been trying to set it up ever since.  iTunes has been a pain in the proverbial butt!

We have gotten to enjoy some nice weather....FINALLY!  Tuesday was the perfect day.  I picked them up from Rachel's, and they had played outside all day.  I fed them a quick dinner when we got home and we went outside until bath time!

Kick!

Love

Yesterday, we had a fairly quiet evening and enjoyed some time inside while it poured down outside. We are all ready for this cold and wet to be gone for a while.  We cannot wait for summer!

Kevin and I are starting to do a few things to the house, and are going to be painting the kitchen this Saturday while the girls go to Grandma and Grandpa's for the day.  We don't want to subject Kylie to paint fumes.  Poor girl has RAD (Reactive Airway Disease).  We don't know if paint will trigger it, and we definitely don't want to take any chances.  Hope it turns out well!  We're definitely excited to start doing some updates to our house.
